Founder’s Note

Hailing from a humble background and having faced struggles in my early days, I could not bear to see people travelling all the way to Coimbatore and Chennai for diagnosis, which often led to delays in their treatment. This very thought inspired me to establish Aarthi Scans and Labs, with the mission to make advanced diagnostics affordable, accessible, and timely for everyone.

Origin of Aarthi Scans and Labs

The journey of Aarthi Scans and Labs is rooted in compassion and vision. In 1985, Er. Govindarajan and his wife, a doctor, started a modest 20-bed clinic in Kovilpatti, Tamil Nadu, to serve the local community. But he soon noticed a painful gap; patients from the region had to travel long distances to Coimbatore or Chennai for even the most basic diagnostic services, particularly MRI and CT scans.

Determined to solve this, he established the first Aarthi Scans and Labs diagnostic centre in Tirunelveli in 2000, offering MRI, CT, and Ultrasound, all under one roof. For the first time, patients from five southern Tamil Nadu districts had access to advanced scanning facilities close to home.

From a Small Clinic to India’s Leading Diagnostic Chain

What began as a small clinic in 1985 has today grown into India’s largest integrated diagnostic chain with 200+ centres across the country.

The Founders

Founded by Mr. V. Govindarajan, a mechanical engineer, and Dr. R. Gomathi, a passionate doctor.

1988– Humble Beginning

Started with a single X-ray unit in Kovilpatti (Tamil Nadu), named “Aarthi” after the founders' daughter.

The Problem & Purpose

Patients from southern Tamil Nadu had to travel to cities for CT and MRI scans, delaying treatment. .

2000 – First Major Milestone

First fully integrated diagnostic centre opened in Tirunelveli with CT, MRI & Ultrasound.

Lab Automation Breakthrough

Installed South India's first fully robotic lab with Total Lab Automation (Siemens Aptio 2) for blood testing in Chennai.

Bengaluru Expansion

Entered Bengaluru with centres in Jayanagar and Indiranagar.

Tamil Nadu Growth

Expanded across Tamil Nadu with centres in Madurai, Tanjore, Rajapalayam, Tuticorin, Tenkasi, and 4 more in Chennai.

Technology Leadership

Expanded to Chennai and installed Asia’s first MRI scanner with TIM technology (Siemens Avanto). Three branches in Chennai.
