An ultrasound scan is performed to examine internal organs, blood flow, or fetal development during pregnancy. During the scan, you will lie comfortably on an examination table. A clear, water-based gel will be applied to the skin over the area being examined. This gel helps the ultrasound probe (called a transducer) glide smoothly and improves the transmission of sound waves. The transducer sends high-frequency sound waves into your body, which bounce back to create real-time images of your internal organs, tissues, or blood flow. The procedure is completely safe, painless, and usually takes 15–30 minutes.
After the scan, the gel will be wiped off, and you can resume your normal activities right away. There are no side effects or recovery time required. Our radiologist will carefully study the images and prepare a detailed report, which will be sent to your doctor. Reports are usually available within a few hours. Your doctor will then review the results with you and advise if further tests or treatment are necessary.
