What is an Cervical X-ray?
A Cervical X-ray is a type of x-ray imaging procedure that examines the neck region which is also called the cervical spine. It gives the image of bones in the back of the neck. The image provides information of the seven bones of the neck that surround and protect the top section of the spinal cord. This test is done by lying on the table and you will be asked to change positions when needed. This test allows the radiologist to evaluate the neck injury or pain, or persistent numbness, pain, or weakness in your arms.
When is a Cervical X-ray prescribed?
A Cervical x-ray is prescribed when your doctor wants to evaluate the reason for your neck injury, pain, numbness and weakness. This test is performed so that the image gives the outline for the cause of the ailments in the neck region. The test gives information of fractured bones, swelling in or near your trachea, bone tumors or cysts, spinal deformities, epiglottitis and croup. These X-rays are very safe but always tell the doctor if you had these x-ray tests in the past so that they can perform the test as per your diagnosis history.
