What is ESR (Erythrocyte Sedimentation Rate)?
The rate at which the RBCs sediment in a period of one hour.
Purpose of Test
The ESR value measured at a specific moment is influenced by the concentration of certain proteins, the plasmatic concentration of which is modified in inflammatory situations, as well as in the presence of various pathologies (ex: neoplasia). It is also affected by certain properties of the erythrocytes and the degree of anemia.
Test of Result Interpretation
- Male : up to 10 mm - first hour
- Female : up to 15 mm - first hour
