What is an Abdominal X-ray?
An Abdominal X-ray is a type of X-ray used to examine the organs and structures in the abdomen. It is usually done to evaluate the stomach and internal organs like liver, intestine and spleen and in cases when you feel pain in the abdomen. Basic information regarding the size, shape, and position of abdominal organs can be seen with abdominal X-rays. When it is used to examine Kidney, Ureter and Bladder, it is called KUB X-ray. As it is fast and easy, it is particularly used for emergency diagnosis and treatment.
When is Abdominal X-ray prescribed?
An Abdominal X-ray, an imaging procedure is typically prescribed when the patient has belly pain or unusual vomiting. It is a diagnostic tool that is used to look conditions like kidney and urinary bladder stones, gallstones, intestinal blockages, perforation of the stomach or intestine ingestion of foreign objects. Abdominal X-ray in some cases may also be used to help properly place catheters and tubes used for feeding or to decompress organs such as the gallbladder and kidneys.
